Shin Bet chief warns of September violence
Outgoing Shin Bet Chief Yuval Diskin said he was extremely worried about the prospects of renewed West Bank violence in September, when the Palestinians will seek United Nations support for a unilateral declaration of an independent state. ‘September may trigger a deterioration of moves on peace unless some kind of development will occur here,” Diskin said.
Diskin was speaking at Tel Aviv University and addressed several other regional issues. Diskin assessed that Hamas had no intention of agreeing to a peace deal with Israel and will not change its ideology or its policy. On Syria, Diskin said that it would most probably be a ‘blood-soaked’ struggle, because the battle involves a ‘minority population fighting for their lives.’ He Added that Assad will ‘use almost any means necessary’ in order to survive.
