Israeli map of southern Lebanon shows nearly 1,000 Hezbollah sites
The Washington Post reported yesterday that Israeli military officials provided the newspaper a map that showed nearly 1,000 Hezbollah locations in southern Lebanon. The Israeli officials believe that there are 550 underground bunkers that have been stocked with weapons provided by Iran and Syria since the end of the 2006 Second Lebanon War. The map also shows 300 Hezbollah surveillance sites and 100 other Hezbollah posts.
The paper noted that Israeli military officials revealed the map to express their concern over the strong relations between Hezbollah, and Syria and to show the world that Hezbollah has turned villages in southern Lebanon into combat zones. It is believed that Hezbollah have stockpiled over 40,000 rockets and missiles, including long range missiles that could reach as far as Tel Aviv from southern Lebanon. A US State Department statement shared Israel’s concerns over the Hezbollah-Syria relationship. “Our concern about Hezbollah’s activities, including in south Lebanon, is well known. It is logical that Israel shares this concern,” the statement said.
