Two Palestinians shot dead after attacking Israelis in West Bank

Two Palestinian men were killed by Israeli soldiers in separate incidents in the West Bank, after they unsuccessfully attempted to attack and harm Israelis.

Yesterday evening a Palestinian man opened fire with an improvised hand gun at a bus stop in the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank, where several Israelis were waiting for transport. Soldiers from the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Infantry Brigade who were on the scene returned fire immediately. YNet reports a high-ranking Israeli officer said the 29-year-old assailant “to my understanding, was acting alone.”

In a separate incident early this morning, Israel Border Police troops opened fire and killed a Palestinian man who brandished a knife and attempted to stab one of them at a checkpoint near Jerusalem. Palestinian medical officials identified the man as a 23-year-old from Hebron. Also early this morning, a Molotov cocktail struck the car of an Israeli woman driving near Efrat in the Gush Etzion area of the West Bank. The woman suffered moderate injuries while her three children who were also present emerged unscathed, having escaped the car before it caught fire. They were taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem for treatment.

The string of attacks follows a series of incidents in the West Bank during the past two months which have left Israelis either dead or injured. Last month, an Israeli man was bludgeoned to death in the Jordan Valley and a week beforehand, a nine-year-old girl was shot by an assailant just outside her home in Psagot. In September, an IDF soldier was kidnapped and murdered near Beit Amin and another was shot dead in Hebron.
