In the UK and international media today, most papers note that Hamas and Fatah have agreed to form a caretaker government made up of independents that will work towards setting up an election by May. The Independent, Guardian, Times and Telegraph report that, in an act of civil disobedience to challenge Israel’s freedom of movement law, six Palestinians boarded an Israeli bus from the West Bank to Jerusalem and were later arrested. The Telegraph and the Scotsman note that Kenyan Prime Minster Raila Odinga visited Israel on Sunday and Monday to seek advice and support from Israel on security related issues. In other news, the Independent carries a piece by Robert Fisk who writes that Syrian President Bashar Assad will only step down if his army turns against him. Sky News Online notes that the Arab League is set to meet to suspend Syria from the organisation following months of violence and government attacks on protesters in the country, while Reuters notes that Syria plans to boycott and not attend the Arab League meeting. Meanwhile, the Telegraph and Financial Times note that Turkey is on the brink of a confrontation with Syria. Ankara announced sanctions against Damascus and said that President Assad’s regime was “on a knife edge”.

On the Israeli front pages today, the Jerusalem Post and Haaretz note that PA President Mahmoud Abbas plans to announce today a caretaker Palestinian government that will work towards setting up Palestinian elections in May. The Jerusalem Post notes that six Palestinian activists were arrested after a civil disobedience protest, where they boarded an Israeli bus in the West Bank and attempted to enter into Jerusalem without valid permits. In other news, the papers note that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposed the draft legislation bills on judicial appointments and told the drafter of the bill MK Zeev Elkin (Likud) to stop promoting it.
