Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has published an op-ed in the Guardian in which he decries the Balfour Declaration as the document that “signed away the Palestinians’ homeland and initiated decades of persecution” for Palestinians, stating that its centenary is cause for “humility not celebration”.

The Independent and the Mail Online both report that Israeli-Palestinian tensions are at their highest since Operation Protective Edge in 2014. The heightened tensions are the result of the IDF’s destruction of a tunnel from Gaza into Israel that killed seven Palestinians, including an Islamic Jihad commander.

The Telegraph has published an editorial condemning Jeremy Corbyn’s decision not to attend a dinner marking the centenary of the Balfour Declaration and stating that this demonstrates this shows little sign of him “accepting Israel’s right to exist”.

The Sun features an explanation of what the Balfour Declaration is, how it is linked to the Israel-Palestine conflict and who Leo Amery is.

The Guardian reviews Jane Corbin’s BBC2 documentary on the Balfour Declaration that was broadcast last night, noting that it demonstrated “how bad Britain has been at solving problems it helped create”.

Reuters and BBC News Online both report the recreation of the battle of Beersheba by an “Australian light horse brigade” of history enthusiasts, who yesterday rode through the town to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the battle.

BBC News Online reports that Iraq is to “take control of Kurdistan border crossings”.

The Times reports that five children were killed by a shell fired by Syrian regime forces yesterday as they queued to buy sweets outside their primary school in the region of East Ghouta.

The Independent features a report from Patrick Cockburn detailing how the Kurds lost Kirkuk to Iraqi government forces.

The front pages of Yediot Ahronoth, Maariv, Haaretz and Israel Hayom all feature the terror attack in Manhattan that killed 8 people.

Yedioth Ahronoth reports on the 22nd anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin.

Israel Hayom and Maariv report the aftermath of Monday’s destruction of an Islamic Jihad tunnel in Israeli territory. Maariv focuses on an argument between Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who criticised the IDF spokesperson for seeming to apologise for the death of Islamic Jihad members. Bennett was criticised by Lieberman as well as members of the opposition. Israel Hayom features quotes from Lieberman who said that Israel will respond to every provocation.

Kan Radio News reports that Egypt conveyed a firm message to Hamas that it would not tolerate a single rocket being fired from Gaza in response to the demolition of the tunnel. Sources told Kan Radio that Islamic Jihad had pressured Hamas to fire rockets at Israel.

Maariv reports that the Military Police began an investigation yesterday into an incident in which a Palestinian man was killed and a Palestinian woman was injured by IDF gunfire near the settlement Halamish. The incident occurred after the troops suspected an attempted vehicular attack was underway.

Maariv reports that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) reached agreements yesterday about the dates for transferring responsibility over the Gaza Strip’s border crossings to troops that are loyal to PA President Mahmoud Abbas. According to that report, the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt will be turned over to PA control on 15 November. Control over the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings between the Gaza Strip and Israel were turned over to PA forces at midnight last night.

Yediot Ahronoth reports on what it terms the “TV Screen Revolution” with Channels 2 and 10 due to become Channels 12, 13 and 14 today.
