In the UK media, the Guardian prints an opinion piece by Sheikh Raed Salah, in which he criticises the UK government for his wrongful arrest and their historic role in supporting the creation of the State of Israel.  He also criticises Israel for what he views discriminatory approach to the Palestinian people living in Israel. The Guardian reports online about Holocaust survivor struggling with poverty in Israel. The Times notes the Israeli officer who hit a Danish activist has been dismissed from his post. Online, the BBC reports on the Egyptian Mufti visiting Jerusalem and praying at the Al-Aqsa mosque, and the ensuing criticism from within Egypt. Reuters quote UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s concern that the Syrian regime is failing to keep to the terms of the cease-fire, and this is picked up by various online outlets.  BBC also reports online on the last minute appeal of Abu Qatada to avoid deportation.  According to the BBC, Prime Minister Cameron has said “he has no right to stay in the UK, he is a threat to our security.”

In the Israeli media, Yediot Ahronot, Israel Hayom and Ma’ariv all lead on Holocaust Memorial Day and the Prime Minister’s speech at the ceremony last night, in which he ramped up the connection between the Holocaust and the Iranian threat. He said in his speech, “The truth is that Iran must be stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons. It is the duty of the whole world, but above and beyond, it is our duty.”  Ma’ariv criticises the Prime Minister for casting dissenting opinions as illegitimate, noting that those who disagree with him include the President, who was seated next to him and senior security officials.  All the papers note the dismissal of Lt. Col. Eisner after he struck a Danish demonstrator.  Israel Hayom and the Jerusalem Post report on the inquiry into the incident, which found a series of failures, the most severe being an ethical failure. All the papers note a number of tragic and unrelated accidental deaths yesterday, including an incident at Mount Herzl where a young, female IDF officer was killed by falling equipment, whilst rehearsing for the annual Independence Day ceremony which will take place next week. Yediot Ahronot also reports on another young soldier who died during a military training test. Haaretz reports on three killed in a road accident in the south of the country, blamed on bad visibility. Similar to the UK there is broad coverage of the failing Syrian cease-fire and the surprise visit of the Egyptian Mufti to Jerusalem.
