With the situation in Egypt worsening, the UK print media continues to focus its attention on the crisis. Reporting on the 25 policemen killed in the Sinai yesterday, The Times covers concerns that terror groups operating in the region may attract foreign fighters, turning the area into an incubator for terror groups targeting the west. The Guardian reports that sectarian tensions have increased since Morsi’s removal, with Muslim Brotherhood supporters scapegoating Christians, attacking at least 32 churches and burning at least 20.  Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror reports that ousted president Hosni Mubarak could be freed within days, according to his lawyer.

The Guardian reports on the restrictions placed by Israel on its citizens travelling to various countries amid fears of a possible terror attacks on Israeli or Jewish targets around the world. The paper also reports that while Hamas states it has no interest in becoming involved in the Egyptian crisis, its immediate concern is to persuade authorities in Cairo to re-open the Rafah border crossing.

Online, The Independent reports on the arrest of supreme leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Badie in Cairo. The Telegraph website reports that in Syria, forces loyal to President Assad have captured all rebel-held redoubts in the coastal province of Latakia.

In Israel the news agenda is once again split between the events in neighbouring Egypt and the national polio vaccination campaign. Yedioth Ahronoth flags up the possible dangers posed by the vaccine to those with suppressed immune systems while Ma’ariv discusses the public debate which has followed the rollout of the campaign.

In Yedioth Ahronoth, Alex Fishman comments on the death of 25 Egyptian policemen in Sinai yesterday, describing the deaths as a “direct result” of the Egyptian decision to pull its commando troops out of Sinai to secure the Suez Canal and the situation in Cairo. Haaretz reports on Justice Minister Tzipi Livni’s move to appoint Prof. Ruth Gavison to formulate an alternative version to the “Jewish State Law” which is being proposed by Likud-Beiteinu and Habayit Hayehudi in the Knesset. Ynet News features a report on the comments by Senator Leahy who told the Daily Beast that the Obama administration has decided to suspend aid until it conducts ‘broad review’ of relations with Cairo
