Israel Hayom: It won’t be easy, by Dan Margalit

“Freshly appointed Israel Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel has inherited a powerful air force, but one that his predecessor Maj. Gen. Ido Nechushtan warns is losing its superiority in the region in the face of growing Arab armies.

Just as IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz officially announced the appointment, and just as it was approved by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Channel 2’s Arab Affairs commentator Ehud Yaari reported that an Iranian website was urging a preemptive Iranian strike on Israel. The website found justification for such an attack within holy Islamic text, using the argument of self defense.

The assumption is that this is merely a verbal escalation, but there is commentary and then there is reality. After the “low probability” that found Israel completely unprepared for the Yom Kippur War in 1973, every citizen wants to be sure that the air force is not making decisions based on intelligence commentary but that it is rather always prepared.”
