Haaretz: Netanyahu at a political turning point as coalition tensions intensify, by Barak Ravid
Despite the pervasive sense of stagnation and the seemingly intractable differences separating the two sides, negotiations with the Palestinians are pushing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu toward a significant political decision-making moment.
Finance Minister Yair Lapid’s speech, in which he proposed kicking his erstwhile political ally Naftali Bennett out of the government in order to advance the peace process, was a significant milestone on the way to that crossroad.
Lapid’s speech marked a sharp turn from previous political statements. The same person that made a point of speaking in the settlement of Ariel and forged an alliance with Uri Ariel and Naftali Bennett’s pro-annexation one-state party was suddenly speaking about the financial blow every Israeli would suffer if a Palestinian state is not founded, soon.
